These Vendor Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern the relationship between Afroko (“we”, “us”, or “our”) and any business owner, representative, or organisation (“Vendor”, “you”) who creates, claims, or manages a business listing on the website https://afroko.co.uk (“the Site”). By creating or claiming a listing, registering a vendor account, or using vendor tools on Afroko, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
If you do not agree with these Terms, you must not create or manage a listing on Afroko.
1. About Afroko
Afroko is an online directory designed to help users discover Afro-Caribbean shops, restaurants, services, events and cultural businesses across the UK. Afroko provides a platform for Vendors to showcase their business but does not act as an agent, partner, employer or representative of any Vendor.
Vendors are solely responsible for the business they list and any interactions with customers.
2. Eligibility
By creating or claiming a listing, you confirm that:
• You are at least 18 years old
• You are the business owner or have legal authority to act on behalf of the business
• You provide true and accurate information
• Your business complies with all UK laws and regulations
We may request verification documents at any time.
3. Creating and Managing a Listing
When you create or manage a listing, you agree to:
• Provide accurate and complete information
• Keep your listing up to date
• Upload only lawful and relevant content
• Ensure that contact details, opening hours and services are correct
• Remove or update outdated information promptly
Afroko may edit or remove listings that contain errors, illegal content, or misleading information.
4. Claiming an Existing Listing
Afroko may create listings using publicly available business information. If your business is already listed, you may claim ownership by following the claim verification process.
By claiming a listing, you agree that:
• You are the legitimate owner or authorised representative
• You will update and maintain the listing responsibly
• You will not claim a listing that does not belong to you
We may deny or revoke access if ownership cannot be verified.
5. Vendor Conduct and Responsibilities
Vendors must use the platform responsibly and professionally. You agree not to:
• Upload false, misleading or fraudulent information
• Provide unlicensed, unsafe or illegal services
• Misuse customer data or contact details
• Publish copyrighted images without permission
• Upload offensive, explicit, discriminatory or harmful content
• Engage in harassment or abusive behaviour
• Manipulate reviews (when reviews are enabled)
• Create duplicate listings for the same business
You remain solely responsible for the content and accuracy of your listing.
6. Content Ownership and Licence
You retain ownership of the content you upload to Afroko. However, by submitting content, you grant Afroko a worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, display, reproduce, and distribute your content on the platform for the purpose of operating and promoting your listing.
You confirm that:
• You own or have rights to all images and text you submit
• Your content does not infringe on any third-party rights
We may remove content that violates copyright or intellectual property law.
7. Communication With Customers
Afroko does not mediate communication between Vendors and customers. Vendors are responsible for:
• Responding to enquiries professionally
• Maintaining respectful communication
• Providing accurate information
• Handling disputes directly with customers
Afroko is not liable for any communications, agreements or disputes between Vendors and customers.
8. Payments and Fees
Basic listings on Afroko may be free. If paid features, premium listings or advertising options are introduced, you will be notified of:
• Pricing
• Billing terms
• Renewal schedules
• Refund policies
All paid services must be used in accordance with these Terms and any additional terms provided at purchase.
9. Prohibited Businesses
Vendors may not list or promote:
• Illegal goods or services
• Counterfeit items
• Adult or explicit content
• Weapons or dangerous items
• Unlicensed medical, legal or financial services
• Any business that violates UK law or Afroko’s policies
We may remove prohibited listings without notice.
10. Suspension or Removal of Listings
Afroko may modify, suspend, or permanently remove any listing or account if:
• The information is false, harmful or misleading
• The Vendor violates these Terms or other Afroko policies
• The business engages in unlawful activity
• Multiple user complaints are received
• The listing is inactive for an extended period
• Ownership verification fails
We may suspend accounts without prior notice in serious cases.
11. Limitation of Liability
Afroko is a directory platform only. We do not guarantee:
• Customer numbers
• Sales or profits
• Visibility or ranking of your listing
• Any business outcome as a result of using the Site
To the fullest extent permitted by UK law, Afroko is not liable for:
• Loss of income, profit or business
• Claims made by customers
• Errors or omissions in your listing
• Any disputes between you and customers
• Damage arising from your use of the platform
You use Afroko at your own risk.
12. Data Protection and Privacy
We handle Vendor personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
By using Afroko, you consent to our processing of your information for the purpose of providing the platform.
Vendors must handle customer data responsibly and must not misuse or share personal information obtained through Afroko.
13. Changes to These Terms
Afroko may update these Terms from time to time. Updated terms will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of Afroko after changes means you accept the revised Terms.
14. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be resolved under the exclusive jurisdiction of UK courts.
